Call for Application: 4th Cohort, FETP,B – INTERMEDIATE
Field Epidemiology Training Program-intermediate is a United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) designed unique 12 months on job training opportunity for government physicians of Bangladesh, technically supported by Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), Jordan and hosted by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control & Research (IEDCR) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Background and Objectives
FETP-Intermediate program is a twelve-month in-service training that addresses the skills needed by the Government health officials to improve epidemiologic capacity to evaluate and strengthen public health surveillance systems, investigate and control outbreaks, conduct field studies to address public health priority issues and Public Health leadership and management. The goal of the Intermediate FETPB is to strengthen the applied epidemiological skills of government health officials and produce the health leaders of the future.
The training consists six contact sessions with a total of 9 weeks divided over six different periods in 12 months (see attachment). Through mentor supervised in-service training, participants learn and practice fundamental skills used in surveillance, outbreak investigation and public health leadership and management. The fieldwork is planned to be at the participants’ job stations where they conduct their field projects to practice, implement, and reinforce what they have learned.
FETP-Intermediate program is implemented in 13 countries around the world, graduates count toward WHO/GHSA goal of 1 epidemiologist per 200,000 populations. Many graduates obtain high-level leadership positions within the health system and health programs under health ministries.
Training
Classroom: Courses in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Disease Surveillance, Outbreak Investigation, Scientific Writing/Communications, and public health leadership/management (see attachment).
Field: Conduct outbreak investigations, surveillance system evaluations and data analyses, disease control and prevention, research, reporting to decision-makers, writing scientific abstract/manuscripts and public health leadership/management.
Benefits
1) Graduation certificate will be awarded jointly by IEDCR, EMPHNET and US CDC upon successful completion of the program.
2) Graduates will be counted as certified field epidemiologist as per WHO and Global Health Security (GHS) criteria.
Criteria of Applicants
1) Government health officials only
2) MBBS doctors working at Govt. health facilities/offices
3) English proficiency
4) Computer literacy and competency
5) Maximum age limit of 40 years
6) Physically able to conduct fieldwork
7) Willingness to travel, on occasion, on short notice within Bangladesh
8) Willingness to work extended hours and weekends, as needed
Optional but preferred criteria
1) Completed FETP-Frontline form IEDCR
2) Have working experience in Public Health programs/Academia/ Primary/Secondary/Tertiary healthcare facilities.
